Photomatched Run Free Type 2 AE86 Front Bumpers (Sprinter & Levin).

I was commissioned to create 3D recreations of the iconic Run Free Type 2 front bumpers for both the Toyota AE86 Trueno/Sprinter (pop-up headlights) and Levin (fixed headlights) chassis. Built specifically for integration into a Live for Speed (LFS) mod, I focused on capturing the exact proportions, aggressive chin lip depth, and period-correct JDM aero lines through precise photomatching techniques.
Technical Breakdown & Workflow
- Strict Poly Count Optimization: I modeled each bumper to stay around ~1,500 triangles (tris) to meet strict in-game performance budget requirements while preserving every critical body line and edge highlight.
- Photomatched Accuracy: Built directly using multi-angle real-world reference photos to ensure the curvature, vent proportions, and ground clearance match the genuine Run Free Type 2 kit.
- Dual Chassis Fitment: Custom-fitted geometry tailored specifically for both the AE86 Sprinter and Levin front ends.
- Clean Topology: Low-poly grid layouts designed specifically for real-time physics engines, ensuring smooth shading and seamless in-game damage deformation without visual stretching.
